ROSA JIJON – WORKS

ECUADOR / ITALY

Ecuadorian artist, activist and cultural promoter working with photo, time – based media, sound, and public interventions. Did my studies in Ecuador, Cuba, and Sweden.

My work deals with the idea of being a foreigner and with human mobility in migratory contexts, borders, and landscape, environmental justice, and nature rights, hence it is based on mutual exchange and collaboration with grassroots groups, organizations and collective projects.  I have attended various workshops and residencies on social and urban interventions with Michelangelo Pistoletto’s Cittadellarte Foundation, in Medellin, Colombia and Italy; co-curator at CEROINSPIRACION arte+residencias, an artist-run space in Quito. Have also taken part in filmmaking projects regarding foreign communities in Italy, Roma children, youth street organizations, and the UN Women Campaign, Women’s Letters (Cartas de Mujeres), against gender violence. In year 2013 I won the first Ecuadorian artistic residency in Antarctica, with my project The Ice Archive: https://archivodelhielo.wordpress.com/ a feminist and decolonial approach to the Wild South.  This last two years I have been a resident artist at MAD Murate Art District in Florence, Q21 in Vienna, and Zentrum für Periferie in Düsseldorf.

I am a member of the Global Alliance for the Rights of Nature GARN, an ambassador for Third Paradise Project by Pistoletto, and funding member of A4C artsforthecommons collective platform, active since 2016.
